Antfarm’s House of the Century

I thought I would post a video from YouTube that I found a while ago that was made featuring the 1970′s architectural collective, Antfarm, and their House of the Century project from 1972. You may remember Antfarm for their iconic Cadillac Ranch. The House of the Century has actually been restored and is relatively close to where I currently live in Houston, Texas. The house is in Angleton, and you can read a very interesting article from the Houston Press about it here.

I think what I love the most about the YouTube video is the juxtaposition with the shots of the ruins. The ancient architecture rising out of the jungle, overgrown and forgotten. And the music is badass too!

The house is still on private property and is not open to the public, but has become the topic of renewed interest after the internet exposed the abandoned house in videos and blog postings, as well as Laura Harrison and Elizabeth Federici’s recent documentary film, What If, Why Not? Underground Adventures With Ant Farm. I had the great opportunity to see the opening of the film a couple of years ago, in which details of the badass house’s design and construction are revealed. Here is the trailer for the documentary, and if you can find it, I highly recommend checking it out. The website and other info for the film is here. AMAZING!

BLING Watch

These are some sketching and rendering demos I did for my portfolio class. I was pretty stoked about how these turned out, since I don’t get an opportunity to sketch like this for work very often.
